These calls are a chance for us to share tips and discussion about relevant topics (working remotely, maintaining consistency in uncertain times, building relationships across geography, staying motivated, staying connected, etc) and network with each other to provide help and support during this time of change.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us today! Click here to join our next call on Friday, June 19th at 1:15pm (CDT).

On today's call...

Sinikka talked about social etiquette.

As we restrictions are starting to lift, we will entering an area with a lot of questions. We will need to consider everyone around us in these different areas...

  • Meeting in person?
  • Masks or no masks?
  • Handshakes
  • Communicating your personal space
  • Participating in a group situation
  • Someone does something you’re not comfy with
  • Zoom etiquette

Even if we don't have all the answers, we need to consider how the other people in the situation feel and be respectful.

A few thoughts that were shared by the group:

  • One participant thinks decisions about workplace structure will be made by leaders. They think live meetings won’t happen for a while and they will forgo handshakes and hugging for a while.
  • One participant doesn’t want to be looked down upon or treated differently because they are high risk.
  • One participant is looking forward to the fall and will participate on some conferences virtually and as a hybrid. They don’t know how that is going to look, but they’re excited.
  • One participant knows that they project their voice so they try to keep their volume down so they aren’t spreading germs at a 12-15 foot radius.
  • One participant has been teleworking for years so they haven’t experienced much disruption and think they’ll be able to socially distance for a while still.
  • On a social side one participant been using the idea of deferring to the other person’s preferences on making decisions. “We are getting together next week, how do you want to do it?”
  • One participant has been asking “Tell me where you are on a scale from hug to zoom and we’ll do what you want to do.”
  • One participant’s family member set up three physical spaces in the yard during a family get-together. There was a 6-feet apart area, a space where you could be closer but still careful, and a space where no rules applied. Family members could go where they were comfortable.
